Chen Yan’s novels place great emphasis on the classical Chinese context and frequently incorporate folk art resources such as opera and drama into their creation. The body is a key element in these works, existing not only in textual expression but also in theatrical performance and the stage of life. The portrayal of the body is a testament to the characters’ exceptional control. On the theater stage, the body serves as a carrier of cultural symbols, as demonstrated by the Qin artist in “Protagonist”, who draws inspiration from Qin E and transforms her body to communicate emotions and establish an interactive relationship with the world.
