By combing through the lineage of aesthetic thought from early Greek to modern classical times, we are able to uncover the hidden laws of human re-creation of the external world. In the course of the development of aesthetic thought and artworks in different periods, the theory moves from the exploration of the nature of art and artistic creation to the subject’s gaze and perception of the aesthetic object, that is, from conceptus to aesthetic contemplation. While imaginative imitation is seen as a sensible conceptus, the perception and aesthetic contemplation of beauty is closely related to the relationship that the subject has with the object, and its manifestations can be found in early Western classical aesthetic theory as well as in many more works of literature and art.
