As an important part of the foreign publicity translation, the English version of the report on the work of the government is an important medium for the international community to get the pic-ture of China’s policies and economic development. So the credibility of the translation of the re-port on the work of the government is extremely significant. Therefore, this paper builds the re-search corpus of the US State of the Union address and the English translation of the report on the work of the government from 2014 to 2023, and uses AntConc, WordSmith and Corpus Word Parser software to compare and analyze lexical features in terms of types tokens ratio and high- frequency words. The results show that the English translation of the report on the work of the government has low lexical variation; the Chinese government pays more attention to specific is-sues such as the development of the mass economy; The English translation of the report on the work of the government has the word of polysemy, etc. By studying the characteristics of lexical application, we can better grasp the lexical translation methods of the report on the work of the government. Therefore, the paper is not only helpful to expand the translation of political docu-ments into English, but also to promote research in other related fields.
