It is an account of an individual¡¯s attempt to understand the prescriptive nature of change in education since 1988; to locate a place within that process and try to influence those factors that are changeable and minimize those that are not. Examples are drawn from the writer¡¯s experience of combining roles in the first instance as a teacher-researcher and later as an OFSTED inspector and independent researcher. %K OFSTED %K National Curriculum %K Language in the National Curriculum %K So-cio-Cultural Theory %K Democratic Change %K Community of Practice %K Zone of Proximal Development %K Assessment for Learning %U http://www.scirp.org/journal/PaperInformation.aspx?PaperID=123776
