Language is the reflection of world, and the essential issue of language motivation is the relationship between language and world, language and human, which is also the particular concern in cognitive linguistics and linguistic philosophy. This study reveals the motivation and laws of word production and evolution to a certain degree, and provides some empirical data for morphological iconicity research of English vocabulary, by exploring the origin of “see”, “eye”, “look”, and the production and development of English alphabet. The findings are 1) English letters can derive from Semitic, which is similar to hieroglyph, that means there exists highly correlation between Semitic and its symbolic meaning, and “o” represents “eye”. 2) From the perspective of morphological iconicity, the words “see”, “eye”, “look” can indicate the symbolic meaning of “eye” or “by eye”. 3) Some words with the pattern of “*ee*”, like seek, relate to “eye” or “by eye” to certain degree.
