The novel is set in the period of Dominican political independence. However, the colonial traces of British colonists in Dominican thought, culture, education and so on are everywhere. The protagonist Xuela, whose mother is the descendant of Dominic slaves and whose father is racially mixed of red-haired Scots and African, is confronted with hybrid racial and cultural identities. Under the influence of the “mimicked” school education and the surrounding colonial ideology represented by her father, she is actually a “mimicman” with dual cultural identity cultivated by the British colonists in the colonies. However, she clearly shows her sense of autonomy, which is mainly reflected in her identification with the Caribbean racial identity, her resistance to colonial ideology, and her variation—subversion of the mimicry of patriarchy and imperialism. %K 《我母亲的自传》,雪拉,混杂,“模拟人”,霍米巴巴
