A new route to synthesize glutaric acid from γ-butyrolactone was studied. First, γ-butyrolactone is ring-opened to generate ethyl 4-bromobutyrate, and then photocatalytic carbonylation is carried out with CO2 as carbon source under light conditions, and finally glutaric acid is obtained by hy-drolysis and purification.
