Objective: To explore the characteristics of college students’ short video usage and its impact on subjective well-being. Methods: A questionnaire survey was conducted among 1834 college stu-dents using the Short Video Usage Intensity Scale, the Subjective Well-Being Scale and the Self-Control Scale. Results: 1) The short video usage of college students was significantly negatively correlated with self-control and subjective well-being, while self-control was significantly positively correlated with subjective well-being; 2) Self-control plays a complete mediating role in the effect of short video use on college students’ subjective well-being. Conclusion: Excessive use of short video will weaken the self-control ability of college students and lead to the decline of subjective well-being; enhancing the level of self-control is conducive to improving the subjective well-being of college students.
