%0 Journal Article %T Ibn al-¡®Arab¨©¡¯s Understanding of Ethics %A Osman Karaa£¿a£¿ %J - %D 2019 %X Among the most debated issues since the day human beings began to live collectively are ethics and the relationship between ethics and religion. There have been a lot of debates about the connection between ethics and religion. According to some philosophers, it is religion that affected from ethics, while for others it is ethics that affected from religion. According to a new third approach, religion and ethics are two independent structures. They don¡¯t need one another in order to exist. The issue of ethics is one of the most important issues discussed intensively both in the West and Islamic World. In the West, a reason-based understanding of ethics has been emerged, while in the Islamic world, a religious-based ethics has been emerged. One of the most prominent scholars in the Islamic world who came to the forefront with his ideas and influenced generations after him was Ibn al-¡¯Arab¨©. According to him, religion and morality are like twin brothers who suck milk from the same breast, which is revelation. Some of the ethics are gained while the others are congenital. While the development and permeability of some moral behaviors is possible, this is not the case for some other behaviors.
