%X The subject of this article is the real and fictional places in When the Mountains Fall Down: the Eternal Bride by Kyrgyz author Chinghiz Aitmatov. The transformation of a discourse into a narrative is possible through the interrelation among the character, space and time. Space in a narrative functions as the setting in drama. In Aitmatov¡¯s last novel, open and closed spaces are generally used. The most important open spaces are the mountains which are the natural habitats for animals. There are two major characters in the novel: Caabars, an animal and a freelance journalist Arsen Saman£¿in, a human. The mountains are certainly Caabars¡¯ natural habitat. In the novel, there are many refences to Uzengili Mountains as an open space where Arsen Saman£¿in was born and Cabaars wants to go. Both the lives of Arsen and Caabars will end at Molata£¿ Cave in Uzengili gateway. Kyrgyz people have not been aware of the richness of their country and could not enjoy it. In a sense they have betrayed the geography where they live. If this betrayal continues, the mountains will inevitably fall down. The collapse of the mountains means an apocalypse for them
