When hazards cannot be controlled at the source or more protection is needed, personal protective equipment (PPE) can be used to minimize exposure to a variety of hazards. This study considers 8 facilities in metal industry at Eskisehir. Measurements are made to obtain environmental data and a questionnaire is conducted to 92 workers to assess physical stress, availability and use of PPE. Based on the measurements, average values for noise is determined as 91.88 dB(A), temperature 23.99¡ãC, humidity 36.35%, and illumination as 289.34 lux. 93.48% of the employees are exposed to noise levels higher than the recommended limit and 72.83% of them cannot work in ideal temperature levels. On the other hand, humidity level can be considered as reasonable for 26.09% and illumination level can be considered as reasonable for 34.78% of the workers. Each employee uses at least one type of PPE. It is observed that almost half of the employees (43.68%) who work at the area where noise levels are higher than the legal limit (85 dB(A)) and half of the employees who have hear loss problem don¡¯t use earplugs. Although employees who work at specific machines (i.e., lathe, milling, drill) have to wear eye protection glasses, 15% of the employees don¡¯t have such PPE and 42.86% of the employees don¡¯t use eye protection glasses. On the other hand, protective gloves and protective foot wear are being used in almost each department as expected in metal industry. 17.9% of the employees had a work accident within the last 5 years. Keeping in mind that 23.91% of them experience hearing problems, upper, lower back and hand, arm, leg pain, trainings for the use of PPE might help to reduce the work accidents and their consequences %K £¿evre fakt£¿rleri %K Fiziksel zorlanma %K £¿£¿ sa£¿l£¿£¿£¿ ve g¨¹venli£¿i %K Ki£¿isel koruyucu donan£¿m %U http://dergipark.org.tr/sujest/issue/43923/540472
