Verse Of Surah al-Nour %A Emrullah ¨¹LGEN %J - %D 2018 %X Quranic interpreters make different interpretations about £¿ayri uli¡¯l-irbeti mine¡¯r-rical (who doesn¡¯t have sexual desire for women) in 31st verse of surah-al Nour located in the context of persons who are not seen to be problem of looking at the private (zynet) of women. This statement has been interpreted as imbecile, fool, stupid, a child (that hasn¡¯t reached puberty), emasculated, seriously ill, mukhannathun. The common point of these people is that they all don¡¯t feel sexual desires or needs for women. What make mukhannathun different from the others in this verse are the two hadiths related from Hz. Aisha and Hz. Umm Salamah. Nevertheless, there is no information about the mukhannathun except the two hadiths mentioned in tafsir sources. Considering this fact, the etymological analysis of the concepts of uli¡¯l-irbeti and mukhannathun will be done. Then, it will be tried to reveal the semantic relationship between the two concepts based on the interpretations of tafseer sources. Then, in the early stages of Islam, how the phenomenon of mukhannathun evoke in the mind, what kind of social status they have.
