The music of this period, which is an accumulation of the history of hundreds of years, is serious, modest, elegant, fluent, and away from extremism, thus it is characterized as Istanbul Style. This style becomes more evident especially in Religious Music performed by different nations. Istanbul Style is one of the two styles that has become famous in Islamic World (the other was Egyptian Style). The most distinguished composers and the performers have been raised in this style. Beyoglu Aga Mosque¡¯s Muezzin, Haf£¿z Kemal Tezergil, who was also a mevlidhan (reciter of Mawlid) ayinhan (rite singer) and zakirba£¿£¿ (the leader of the religious rites and recitations), was one of the last representatives of Istanbul Style. He is not as well-known as his contemporaries.
