%0 Journal Article %T An Example of Waste Management in Touristic Coastal Areas: Bodrum %A Sevil £¿ALI£¿KAN ELEREN %J - %D 2019 %X Waste management is a system that determines needs within a certain area taking into account the environmental conditions and economic development, from the generation of waste to final disposal. In this study, waste management system in Bodrum Municipality of Mu£¿la province was examined. The issues affecting the management of municipal waste and waste management data obtained at the end of field studies were evaluated based on internal and external tourism in coastal areas. At the end of the study; depending on the tourism activities in the region; the population increased by 728% in the summer months compared to the winter months. In the summer season, in parallel with the increase of the tourist population in Bodrum Province, it has been determined that the municipal wastes are increased from 180 tons/day to 490 tons/day and park-garden wastes from 10 tons/day to 450 tons/day. The collection and transportation of waste in Bodrum is carried out by the municipality in one district and by the private sector in two district.
