For determining the sample, criterion sampling was used from non-random sampling methods. One middle school in Siirt, which houses Turkish, Arabic and Kurdish students, was selected as a setting for the study. In order to determine the perceptions of the students about the concept of "nation", students were asked to complete the following missing statement in a form: "Nation is like ...., because¡¡¡¡". The aim of the study is to determine the metaphorical perceptions of the students on concept of nation in a school where different ethnic groups are represented in Siirt,Turkey. 118 metaphors were obtained from the students¡¯ responses and these metaphors were divided into 8 conceptual categories. The most frequent metaphors given by the students were homeland (f = 16) and family (f = 14). It can be considered positively that majority of students produced homeland as metaphor for the concept of nation. Looking at the categories, the unity and the spiritual unity were the most frequently expressed metaphors, whereas culture and independence were the least expressed ones. Additionally, the social Ideal constituting the nation were hardly expressed by the students. By looking at these categories, it can be concluded that students with different ethnic background have a concept of nation despite the lack of interpretation about the concept thoroughly. As for the questionnaire, it was seen that 30 out of 148 students (20%) did not produce any metaphors on the form. 20 percent is actually a high ratio, therefore it can be argued that the students' acquisition of the concept of nation could be considered low %K Sosyal Bilgiler %K Metafor %K Nitel Ara£¿t£¿rma %K Millet %K Ortaokul %U http://dergipark.org.tr/tuhed/issue/36775/321811
