%0 Journal Article %T THE SPECIAL ISSUE OF NAVY LEAGUE [DONANMA] MAGAZINE FOR THE JIHAD PROCLAMATION IN THE FIRST WORLD WAR %A Hasan ULUCUTSOY %J - %D 2018 %X The Donanma magazine is a periodical published between 1910-1919 with 191 issues and also a special issue for the Dardanelles Campaign. During this period, after the Tripoli and Balkan Wars, the Donanma magazine also plays a pioneering role in contributing to the First World War efforts, especially collecting donations in order to maintain warring. One of the important part of these contributions is also propaganda activities. As a matter of fact, the war propaganda gains an important place among the mobilization activities of the Ottoman Empire that participated in the First World War with the jihad proclamation which was declared to the Ottoman public on 14 November after being decided on 11 November 1914. At this point, the Donanma magazine, which has become an important publication with written and visual propaganda works, comes to the forefront. The magazine does not neglect the memorial of the first anniversary of the proclamation of jihad on 11 November 1915 with Special Issue [N¨¹sha-i Mahsusa]. N¨¹sha-i Mahsusa contains propagative writings, poetries of war literature and numerous stunning photographs in the way of pan-islamistic ideas.
