%0 Journal Article %T Security in the Urban Open-Green Areas %A Filiz £¿elik %J - %D 2018 %X Urban open-green areas are among the public spaces heavily used in the city. In most countries of the world people have spent some of the leisure time in the urban open-green areas. Urban open-green areas could make positive contributions to the users in terms of quality of life, social, cultural, economic and health, and sometimes they could also have negative effects. Spatial features, lack of maintenance, crowded, strangers, traffic, climate events, street animals, criminal danger and threat could occasionally have a negative impact on users¡¯ security perception. Open-green areas where contain insecure, crime danger and threat are not preferred by users. For this reason, security, as a basic human need, is at the forefront of the most important needs in open-green spaces. First of all, urban open-green areas should provide secure spaces to their users. Afterwards, it has been expected that urban open-green spaces should offer spaces and uses that will satisfy their needs for rest, entertainment, socialization and belonging. In this study; it has been explained the concept of security, urban security and perception of security in the city, perception of security in the urban open-green areas, design concepts for creation of secure spaces and preventing the crime. In Turkey, practices for providing security in urban open-green areas have been described. The topics that need to be considered in design have been explained for the more secure urban open-green spaces.
