%X While many of the turkish tribes who migrated from Central Asia to many parts of the world centuries ago moved to settled life overtime, some tribes and clans continued to live nomadic life. Many of the Oghuz tribes who adopted this nomadic lifestyle came from the regions in the west of the K£¿z£¿l£¿rmak arc and the west of the line that included £¿£¿el in Anatolia to Rumeli lands and they continued their lives in the plains in winters and in the plateaus in summers completely depending on the animal husbandry. This nomadic community was named as Y£¿r¨¹k-T¨¹rkmen in Anatolia. The word y£¿r¨¹k, which is used in socio-cultural life, has been used in hidtorical documents since 14th century. The word has been undergone phonetic changes such as yogr¨¹k, y£¿r¨¹gen y£¿r¨¹k, y¨¹r¨¹k, yuvruk, y¨¹£¿r¨¹k, y¨¹£¿r¨¹k, y¨¹r¨¹k, yuvr¨¹k, y¨¹yr¨¹k in the Anatolian dialects. Because of the differences in articulation, the origin of the word y£¿r¨¹k whether it was derived from the words yor£¿-, y¨¹r¨¹k or y¨¹£¿r¨¹k has resulted in controversy and no clear result has been found. In this article, it is aimed to make a general opinion by giving the meanings of these words in dictionaries and the use of these words from the first works of Turkish
