%0 Journal Article %T THE BACKGROUND OF EGYPT TRADITION IN OTTOMAN QIRAAH EDUCATION IN THE 19TH CENTURY: A BIOGRAPHICAL REVIEW %A Ahmet G£¿KDEM£¿R %J - %D 2019 %X Abstract The article deals with the lives of ¡°qurras¡± (Quran reciters) of Egypt tradition who lived in the nineteenth century. Alongside with the biographies of the mentioned qurra¡¯s, their qualifications in other fields are also addressed but focused mainly on their skills regarding the Qiraah (the science of Quranic recitation). The main purpose of the article is gathering data about the phases of Egypt tradition -which is one of the two living qiraah traditions in present day- inside the Ottoman qiraah education in the nineteenth century using the biographies of its member scholars lived in the same period of time. Therefore the education of the mentioned scholars, their studies, and literatures they have benefited from for their self development will also be examined herein. In fact, it is aimed to unveil the situation of Egypt tradition in nineteenth century through various aspects of its style and patterns of education. This article scrutinizing and revealing the biographies of some remarkale personalities in this field to the core. Illuminating the path for ensuing related studies.
