%0 Journal Article %T THE OUTLINE OF DEMOCRATIC PARTY OPPOSITION IN TRANSITION OF MULTY PARTY PERIOD (1945-1950) %A Ali Karaca %A Engin Yetkin %J - %D 2018 %X In Turkey, between the years of 1945-1950, the transition to a multi-party political life was attempted for the third time and became successful. The RPP (Republican People¡¯s Party) leader and President £¿n£¿n¨¹ made important contributions to the transition to multi-party political life along with the internal and external factors. The DP (Democratic Party) founded by the ex-members of the RPP defined the main parts of its opposition with a small program called Freedom Pact in its first congress held in 1947. According to this Pact, the DP followed an opposition program based on the democratization of the constitution, the amendment of the election law, and the separation between presidency and party leadership. The DP made significant progress in the issues that it opposed. It not only played an important role in the transition to multi-party life but also had an important place in Turkish political life in terms of softening the authoritarian practices of the one-party period and democratizing the constitution.
