%0 Journal Article %T The Structural and Performative Characteristics of Tulum %A O£¿uz YILMAZ %J - %D 2018 %X Anatolia, have hosted a lot of civilization and community of different cultures thanks to its situation throughout history. Although lots of cultural works of these communities have changed in time they have survived till today and been the subject of several studies. Hemshin community living in the east part of Black Sea region since the 6th century is also one of these communities which is the subject of the aforementioned studies. Hemshin community have been studied in three different groups, one is in the West (Rize), one in the East (Artvin) and one in the North (Georgia, Russia) in terms of toponymy, theology and phonology. The musical works of Hemshin community, living on the high plateaus and making a living by agriculture and nowadays by tourism is shaped by their professions. Tulum is the only instrument of this ethnic community and musical culture. The fact that the studies about this instrument are limited played a vital role in the creation of this article which has been produced from the master thesis titled as ¡°Structural and Performance Features of Tulum Instrument in Rize £¿aml£¿hem£¿in Region¡±. In this article, the data collected by literature review about the instrument have been analyzed in chronological a way.
