%0 Journal Article %T The relationship between depression and mentality in adolescents %A £¿zlem £¿AH£¿N ALTUN %J - %D 2018 %X Aim: This study was conducted to determine the relationship between depression and self-esteem in adolescents. Method: This research was carried out in descriptive and relational search design. The population of the study was 459 high school students studying in a district of the Ege Region during the 2013-2014 academic year. The Personal Information Form developed by the researchers and the Beck Depression Inventory (BDE) and the Coopersmith Self-Esteem Inventory (CSBSE) were used to collect the data. In evaluating the data; percentages, averages, Pearson correlation analysis were used. Findings: The mean scores of Beck Depression Inventory total scores of students were found to be 13.35 ¡À 10.16 and Coopersmith Self Esteem Inventory scores were found to be 35.98 ¡À 7.99. In the study, there was a statistically significant negative correlation between Beck Depression Inventory total score average and Coopersmith Self Esteem Inventory total score (p <0.01). Conclusions: As a result of the study, it was determined that the students had low self-esteem and no tendency to depression.
