Therefore, today strengthening and preservation of cognitive functions of elderly people is an important issue in many countries. Although loss of cognitive functions with aging is thought to be inevitable, human and animal studies showed that the brain could be remodeling at every stage of life. It is thought that mental stimulus activities can trigger neuroplasticity and thus increase the cognitive reserve. It is stated that cognitive training, that is one of the mental activities, may be beneficial in preventing / slowing down cognitive decline. Cognitive activities should be taken care of in the elderly in order to maintain and maximize current mental functions. In this review, it is aimed to draw attention to importance of cognitive training on the protection and improvement of cognitive functions in elderly individuals, to create an opinion about the programs used in this issue and to encourage initiatives aimed at improvement.
