%0 Journal Article %T Lifelong Learning Competencies of Trainees in Adult Education %J - %D 2018 %X Purpose: The basic aim of this research is to determine the lifelong learning competency levels of trainees in adult education, and to investigate it in terms of gender, age, marital status, level of education, participation to official or private educational courses, and their durations. Design & Methodology: In this research general survey model was used. The study group consists of 246 students (112 male and 134 female) studying in ISMEK courses located in Fatih district, Istanbul in 2017/18 academic year. In order to determine the trainees lifelong learning competency levels, ¡®¡®Lifelong Learning Competency Scale¡± which was developed by researchers was used. Findings: According to the research findings, the level of the Lifelong Learning Competency of the trainees is significantly high. In terms of subscales, the highest competency level is observed in the native language communication, whereas the weakest level was in foreign language communication. It was observed that the competency level of ISMEK trainees doesn¡¯t significantly differ in terms of marital status and duration of previously attended courses. Whereas it significantly differs in terms of gender, age, school level, and previously attended courses. Implications & Suggestions: As a result of the research, it was concluded that trainees have the highest level of competency in native language communication and the lowest in foreign language communication competency. Solution here can be in developing methods in teaching foreign language courses, increasing total number of courses and making courses more comprehensive. Also qualitative researches can be made by interviewing with trainees in detail in order to get more information about trainees¡¯ lifelong learning competencies.
