%T DECODING OF PATRIARCHAL CODES IN THE REPRESENTATION OF WOMEN IN POLYGAMIC RELATIONS: SAMPLE RECEPTION ANALYSIS OF THE TV SERIES ¡°YENI GELIN¡±

%X The TV has been taking a significant place in our lives for a long time; and it is known as a media tool that broadcasts both visual and audial data at the same time. For the TV series are the most preferred program on TV and used to address a large audience group, it has been a must to analyze them further. This study has been carried out to understand how the TV series ¡°Yeni Gelin¡± has been perceived by the audience. It has been tried to analyze the way how audiences have perceived the codes of polygamy and patriarchy in the series. In the reception analysis, which is a qualitative research method, eight people have been deeply interviewed. The comments of the audience have been analyzed according to decoding status by the questions prepared beforehand. In the results, it has been observed that demographical characteristics of the audience haven¡¯t affected their comments they made while decoding. The similarity of the comments has shown that demographical characteristics haven¡¯t played a determining role in this study. It has also been observed that the gender based patriarchal messages that tried to be delivered via the TV series have been perceived by the audience with a critical perspective; furthermore, it has been clear that their awareness about the issue is really high.
