%0 Journal Article %T EXAMINING SOCIAL SUPPORT PERCEPTIONS, PSYCHOLOGICAL WELL-BEING AND LIFE SATISFACTION OF THE FOREIGN STUDENTS: VAN Y¨¹Z¨¹NC¨¹ YIL UNIVERSITY SAMPLE %A Gaye Zeynep £¿ENES£¿Z %A Suat AYNAS %A Z£¿hre KAYA %J - %D 2019 %X The present study aims to examine the social support perceptions, well-being, and life satisfaction of foreign students who are enrolled in Van Y¨¹z¨¹nc¨¹ Y£¿l University (YYU) during 2016-2017 Fall semester. Participants consist of 138 foreign students from 14 different countries. Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support, Psychological Well-Being Questionnaire, Life Satisfaction Scale and Demographical Information Questionnaires were used for data collection. For descriptive statistics, frequency distributions, mean and standard deviations were examined. For inferential statistics, Pearson product-moment correlation coefficients, and Independent Samples t-tests were conducted. The results indicate that perceived social support, well-being, and life satisfaction levels of foreign students are positively related; and women¡¯s perceived social support levels from their families were higher compared to the men. The comprehension of Turkish language also affected the study variables. Foreign students who comprehend Turkish better have higher levels of perceived social support, psychological well-being, and life satisfaction. Students who have lived in Turkey for 4 years and more have higher perceived social support levels compared to the ones who have lived less. All in all, the results indicated that having whether perceived or actual social support increases psychological well-being and life satisfaction.
