%0 Journal Article %T Examination of communication skills of university students based on variables %A Ezgi D¨¹LGER %J - %D 2018 %X The main purpose of this research is to analyse the communication skills of university students in accordance with variances. In the scope of research, data were collected via simple sampling method, from 400 volunteers (208 female, 192 male) who have studied in £¿stanbul Ayd£¿n University in the 2016-2017 educational year. "Personal Information Form" and "Communication Skills Scale" developed by Korkut Owen and Bugay (2014) were applied to the participants. In accordance with the aims of this research, One Way Variance Analysis (ANOVA) and Independent Group T tests were utilised. As a result of the research, it was detected that students' effective listening and non-verbal communication points varied significantly according to gender and the average of female participants' points was higher than the average of male participants' points. Observing in accordance with the number of siblings variance affecting willingness to communicate, the average of points of those who have one sibling was higher than the average of points of those who were only children. On the other hand, examining according to academic success variance, the average of communication skills scale total points of students with intermediate academic success was higher than of those with underachievement considering the self-expression and willingness to communicate traits. Also, another significant difference on students' communication skills was discovered that was related to their parents' education levels. Observing in accordance with the period spent on watching television, the average point of those who never watch television was higher than of those spent 2 to 4 hours a day watching television considering the total points of communication skills scale and communication principles and basic skills traits.
