%0 Journal Article %T Frequency Of Vi£¿olence Agai£¿nst Women In Istanbul And Thei£¿r Percepti£¿on Of Vi£¿olence %A Mehmet Ziya Gen£¿er %J - %D 2019 %X Purpose: This research was aimed to form a data set on whether women across different social segments were exposed to violence, types of violence, the women£¿s viewpoints on various acts of violence and the current level of violence against women in the society as well as to produce solutions to effectively prevent such violence. Materials and Methods: 350 volunteer women with ages above 18 who applied to Family Medicine Policlinics in £¿stanbul Okmeydan£¿ Training and Research Hospital on April-July 2017 were involved in our study. Results: While of 67.71 of our participants stated that they were exposed to violence from their partners at least once, it was found out that %36.28 of such violence cases were physical, %58.28 were psychological, %40.28 were economical and %24.28 were sexual. While women with only primary school degree made up the group with the highest rate of physical, psychological and economic violence, it was discovered that the women with master£¿s degree or Ph.D. were the ones facing sexual violence most. While women£¿s perception level of violence against types which were legally challengeable was recorded higher, such perception level was observed to be lower against violence types where no clear legal remedy exists as per the legislation. Conclusion: As it was found out that the level of violence against women was still high in the society, education level was recognized to determine the type and frequency of violence as well.
