%0 Journal Article %T VOLUNTEER NURSING COURSES IN THE SECOND WORLD WAR IN TURKEY %J - %D 2018 %X The aim of this study to analyze thev olunteer nursing courses of the Second World War period opened in Turkey, in terms of the development of nursing. Primary and secondary sources, official documents, archives and policies of the period were screened using data collection technique as a research method. The relational screening model was adopted in the evaluation of this data. The answers to the questions of why and how used in the qualitative research method were sought. Turkey was not actively involved in the Second World War, but, even though mobilization was not declared, there were preparations as if the army entered the war. As the Second World War was a total war, the preparations were also total. For this purpose, the number of soldiers in the army was increased. In the event of war, the nursing needs of the army were also met with voluntary nursing courses opened by the Red Crescent and military hospitals and later supported by the Charity Society. Hundreds of volunteer nurses were trained in these courses, which were opened in other cities, especially in Ankara and Istanbul. The courses that started in 1939 ended in 1944. The President £¿smet £¿n£¿n¨¹¡¯s Wife Mevhibe £¿n£¿n¨¹, who actively participated in the Charity Society, also received a volunteer nurse diploma. As a result, volunteer nurses trained for war preparation met the needs for some time nursing services in Turkey and played an important role in valuing nursing in society.
