One of the most important reforms brought by the new system is the position of vice-presidency. The main task of the vice-president is to deputize for the president. The vice-presidency is regulated by both the constitution and the presidential decrees. The president personally appoints and dismisses his deputy or deputies from among those who are eligible to become a member of parliament. The vice-presidents also have the duties and powers assigned by the law, house regulations of Turkish Grand National Assembly and presidential decrees, as well as their constitutional duties and powers. They are responsible to the president. The criminal, personal and legal responsibilities of the vice-presidents are regulated in the constitution. Unlike the Turkish presidential government system, in the United States, which is the homeland of the presidential system, the vice president, as well as the president himself or herself, is elected by the people. In the United States, the vice-president must also have the same eligibility as the president to be able to elected. He or she is the most competent person on the executive side after the president.
