The negotiation process, started between the representatives of two groups following the conflicts, lasted about two weeks, and the Ohrid Framework Agreement (OFA) was signed on 13 August 2001. The OFA has considerably affected political structure and democratization process of Macedonia. After this event, despite a thorny process, there have been seen improvements in minority rights; notably, the local governments have gained more autonomy; and serious steps have been taken regarding language freedoms.
