%X Local geography is a geographical approach that enables any confined area of the earth to be examined geographically from any angle or from any direction. Local geography teaching is the effective use of all the geographical elements that can be used in geography teaching located in the immediate vicinity or adjacent regions of the school where the students receive education. In other words, local geography teaching can also be called a teaching approach that facilitates the student¡¯s understanding the country he/she lives in as an individual and the world we live in, starting with the micro-geographical environment of him/her, allowing him/her to better understand the environment and the region he/she is in. As its name implies, local geography teaching is based on conveying an area¡¯s features separating it from other areas to the individuals through education and on enabling the individuals to learn the physical, human and economic factors of firstly their environment and region and then of the country and world in which we live. In addition, it aims to generalize their information, make them an inference by establishing different correlations and use what they have learned throughout their lives based on what individuals are learned. There is a limited number of studies/researches in national and international literature related to local geography. Regarding the teaching of local geography, it is determined that while there is no direct study in the national literature, again there is a limited number of studies in the international literature. For this reason, the aim of the study is to reveal the existence and importance of local geography teaching in the light of domestic and international literature related to local geography and its teaching. In accordance with this purpose, the concepts of local/locality, local geography and local geography teaching have been discussed and comments and suggestions have been made
