%0 Journal Article %T SEXUAL IDENTITY BASED HATE SPEECH IN NEW MEDIA: INCI SOZLUK SAMPLE %A Zeynep Benan DONDURUCU %J - %D 2018 %X Today, new media has created a new space for freedom of expression to users with its features such as content production freedom and independence from editorial supervision compared to traditional mass media. However, the impossibility of finding out the producers of the content and not operating control mechanisms in Internet has made the new media one of the platforms which hate speech can be produced and circulated. One of the new media vehicles in which hate speech is constantly circulated is participatory dictionaries where users produce contents collectively. One of the groups that become the target of hate speech on participatory dictionaries are LGBT individuals who are constantly subject to discrimination and othering practices within the framework of their sexual identity due to the dominant ideological discourse in public sphere. So, the messages which are taken part in popular category in the ¡°homosexual, gay, lesbian, bisexual, transexual¡± titles in 2010-2017 period in Inci Sozluk that is different from other participatory dictionaries with its slang and sexist structure are examined to find out the production of sexual identity based hate speech due to qualitative and quantitative content analysis method.
