%0 Journal Article %T A Needs Analysis on the Reasons of Learning Turkish as a Foreign Language: The Case of Djibouti %A EL£¿F SAYAR %J - %D 2019 %X Today, with the increase of social, cultural, economic, political and commercial relations between the nations and with the geographical mobility, in addition to mother tongue, second and even third language learning has become essential. Studies conducted on language learning have revealed that effectiveness of language learning and teaching process depends on individuals¡¯ taking responsibility for their own learning. Starting from this, learners have begun to take place at the center of pedagogical practices, and analysis of their needs, planning of teaching, and implementing assessment and evaluation accordingly have gained importance. In this research, within the context of needs analysis in learner-centered approaches, the needs of learners learning Turkish as a foreign language at Djibouti University in 2016-2017 spring semester were identified, the problems they encountered were determined, and the suggestions they offered were discussed. The research was structured in accordance with the survey model, and data were collected using a semi-structured interview form. The obtained data were grouped, themes were analyzed, and descriptive content analyzes were carried out. The data obtained from the study revealed that not only developing foreign language skills but also strengthening cultural interaction were ascertained as the primary aims of the learners. Besides, it was determined that learners had some difficulties about the instructional material as well as some challenges related to the structural features of Turkish language.
