It is possible to see reflections of culture in art as well as characteristics of art in culture. Also art effects many communities that are close to or far from each other. From this point of view, as an Asia rooted traditional form of art, ¡°shadow play¡± can be observed with similar characteristics in many different communities. In terms of its stylistics, shadow play is attributed to cinema as well, is also known as ¡°Karag£¿z shadow play¡± in Turkish community. In addition, Karag£¿z shadow play is considered as a significant performance art because it includes the ideas of mysticism. Orta Oyunu as an example of a prevailing genre of traditional performing arts in Turkish culture, contain similar characteristics with Karag£¿z shadow play. Turkish traditional arts have affected Turkish Cinema in several eras. Foremost, some directors like Halit Refi£¿, At£¿f Y£¿lmaz, Metin Erksan, Dervi£¿ Zaim, Yavuz Turgul have emphasised on the significance of traditional Turkish arts as a source for Turkish Cinema in terms of their form and content. One of these directors, Yavuz Turgul, critisized the Western sourced aesthetic form of Turkish Cinema and attempted to use the Eastern philosophy and core values in his works. Accordingly, in the study, Yavuz Turgul¡¯s movie G£¿lge Oyunu (1992) is examined from the point of traditional performing arts and mysticism. In the analysis, ¡°qualitative film analysis¡± method has been used. As a result of this study, it has been observed that Yavuz Turgul¡¯s movie G£¿lge Oyunu made use of Karag£¿z shadow play, one of the traditional Turkish performing arts, Orta Oyunu and Islamic mysticism.
