%0 Journal Article %T PRESENT INTERPRETATIONS OF COURTYARD SPATIAL CONFIGURATION IN THE TRADITIONAL RESIDENTIAL ARCHITECTURE %A Ayhan BEKLEYEN %J - %D 2019 %X The courtyard spatial configuration of the Middle East dominates the planimetric view of the dwellings of the historical cities in the Southeastern Region of Turkey. The design and application of new houses that are inspired by the courtyard spatial configuration of the traditional houses are not very prevalent in Turkey. New courtyard houses built in the Citadel Settlement of Diyarbak£¿r are among these rare instances. The main aim of the present study is to evaluate the new courtyard houses built in historical area of Diyarbak£¿r, in terms of spatial configuration and form. This evaluation focuses on the discrepancies between traditional and new residences in terms of climate and privacy measures and sheds light on the details that need to be considered in the production of new houses.
