%0 Journal Article %T Approaching nicotine dependency and affecting factors in smoking cessation centers %A Emine Vildan £¿ahin %J - %D 2019 %X Purpose: Smoking addiction is still a common health problem all over the world and in our country. Recently, the action plans related to cigarette addiction in the world and our country have created awareness smoking cessation clinics were opened. Society showed great interest to these outpatient clinics. The purpose of this study is to determine the socio-demographic characteristics of the patients referred to smoking cessation outpatient clinics. Material and Method: This descriptive, cross sectional and prospective study was conducted between January 2012 and March 2012 at Ankara Education and Research hospital family medicine smoking cessation clinic. Survey questions including socio-demographic characteristics of participants were asked. Also Fagerstr£¿m test was applied. The collected data was analyzed by SPSS 16.0 program. Results: A total of 126 people were participated. 61.9% of the participants were female and 38.1% were male. The average age was 39.3. The average Fagerstr£¿m scores were 7.51. The average amount of smoking period and amount is 13.46 packets / year. More than half of the patients had tried to quit smoking before. Also, only three of the patients were confident that they could quit smoking. Most of patients frequently started cigarette smoking because of attention, and most wanted reason for quit smoking was health concerns. Conclusion: Most of patients frequently started cigarette smoking because of attention mostly wanted reason for quitting smoking is due to negative effects on health. Most of the patients who applied to smoking cessation clinics were female and had high degree of addiction.
