%0 Journal Article %T THE ATTEMPTS OF SOVIET RUSSIA AND UKRAINE TO DESTRUCT THE CRIMEAN NATIONAL GOVERNMENT AS REFLECTED IN THE TURKISH PRESS %A MUHARREM TURP %A SEL£¿UK URAL %J - %D 2018 %X In the period of chaos that followed the October Revolution, Crimean Tatars organised themselves in Crimea, where they had been continuing their existence for long years, and established the Crimean Tatar Government on 26 December 1917. Although the government, led by Noman £¿elebi Cihan, intended to work on education, economy and many other fields in its short term of office, it was bloodily dissolved by Bolshevik forces. £¿elebi Cihan was executed by firing squad. In May 1918, the Crimean Tatar National Assembly's efforts for establishing a Crimean National Government were reacted by Bolshevik Russia and Ukraine. The Ottoman Government followed closely these developments in Crimea. It tried to assess Germany's influence in the region after the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk. The developments in Crimea were frequently appeared in the newspapers.
