In recent years, new alternative products are determined associated with diabetes treatment and the effects of many natural plants on diabetes are being studied. In this study we aimed to show the effect of Pl. major on oral flora with microbiological and biochemical markers in rats with experimental diabetes. 30 male Wistar albino rats as animal material were used in the study and separated into 5 groups (control, diabetic, Pl.major, diabetic + Pl.major and diabetic+ins¨¹lin). All groups during the four week trial fed standard chow and water. Diabetes and diabetes with Pl.major to form each group of rats (65 mg / kg) was applied as a single dose STZ intraperitoneally. Following the formation of diabetes, by calculating the amount of water consume per rat 0.3 mg / ml of Pl.major extract were added to drinking water of rat groups with diabetes plus Pl.major and Pl.major per day. In addition, at the beginning and at the end of the study, also after the formation of diabetes, swab samples were taken from rats for determining total aerobic bacteria count in oral mucosa. Serum glucose and HbA1c levels in diabetes + Pl. major groups were found to be significantly lower than the diabetes group. There is no significant difference between two groups in the total bacteria number on oral mucosa. In light of the data obtained from the study we determined that application of Plantago major on rats with experimental diabetes reduced the blood glucose and HbA1c levels with it¡¯s insulin-like effect, but did not effect total bacteria number in diabetes %K Plantago major %K Diabetes mellitus %K £¿mm¨¹n sistem %K Rat %U http://dergipark.org.tr/avrasyasbd/issue/42940/492225
