%0 Journal Article %T General principles under the Law on the Protection of Personal Data %A Nafiye Y¨¹ceda£¿ %J - %D 2019 %X The general principles of data processing are regulated under Art. 4 of the Law on the Protection of Personal Data numbered 6698. . In accordance with this provision, in processing of personal data, it is mandatory to comply with these principles, which are lawfulness and conformity with rules of bona fides, accuracy and being up to date, where necessary, being processed for specific, explicit and legitimate purposes being relevant with, limited to and proportionate to the purposes for which they are processed, being retained for the period of time stipulated by relevant legislation or the purpose for which they are processed. Each of these general principles has equal importance and all are closely related to each other. Some of these principles are based on others. It is necessary to consider general provisions regarding processing of personal data in terms of compliance with all legislations within the context of personal data protection. In this sense, the general principles constitute the baseline of compliance to the data protection legislation.
