It is recommended that infants are exclusively breastfed for the first six months after birth, followed by continued breastfeeding with appropriate complementary foods until 2 years of age. There is evidence of increased frequency and duration of breastfeeding when mother and infant dyads sleep together. On the other hand, there is a statistical relationship between co-sleeping and sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).
