%0 Journal Article %T Dar¨¹lelhan in Archive Documents %A Erhan £¿ZDEN %J - %D 2018 %X Dar¨¹lelhan is the first official music school opened under the Ottoman Ministry of National Education This the school opened in 1916, after completing the necessary arrangements such as legislation, curriculum, school building, and appointment educational staff in a few months. When Dar¨¹lelhan was founded, the Ottoman Empire was about to lose World War I. Therefore, one of the most important characteristics distinguishing Dar¨¹lelhan from music schools in Europe is that the state was established in a time of great difficulty. Dar¨¹lelhan, which started training as a newly established conservatory under severe conditions of war, played an important role in Turkish music education. Dar¨¹lelhan, which means ¡°house of melodies¡±, has set an example for today¡¯s conservatories with the method, program, performance discipline, and notation studies that it has brought to our Turkish music education and has enabled the implementation of music education methods in Europe.
