It is commonly associated with the lack mental stimuli which can turn employees into ¡®professional zombies¡¯. Drawing on conservation of resources (COR) theory, this article examines the impact of boreout on career adaptability, as well as the moderating effect of family¨Cwork enrichment. Utilizing data from employees in the service industry (n=250), a structural equation modeling technique was employed. The data unveiled that (1) boreout has a negative impact on employee career adaptability, (2) that family¨Cwork enrichment has a positive impact on employee career adaptability, and (3) that family¨Cwork enrichment does not moderates the relationship between boreout and employee career adaptability. The authors concluded that organizations should address the problematic lack of on-the-job challenges, by reevaluating job design, enriching jobs, weighing work demands, and a careful consideration of person-job fit.
