%0 Journal Article %T The Impact of Industry on the Establishment and Development of An Anatolian City: The Case of Ayanc£¿k %J - %D 2018 %X Ayanc£¿k is one of the developed districts of Sinop province on the coastal belt of the Black Sea Region. Today's Ayanc£¿k which is the district center now, was either a township center and a small village look like in the first years of the Republic. In 1929, the forest management system established on the district lands with the link to the rich vegetation in the region and the timber factory built in Ayanc£¿k, which constitutes the central part of it, changed the destiny of this small settlement and Ayanc£¿k became one of the first functional industrial cities in sense of Republican Turkey. Z£¿NGAL T.A.£¿. was established as a foreign-capital funded company in Ayanc£¿k district center and soon it showed its impact on the region with more than 600 workers working in the factory apart from 3,000 workers working in the forest business, and more than half of the living people, compared to their current population, started to make their living from industrial activity. Ayanc£¿k's economic, social and cultural structure has changed rapidly from the beginning of the 1930's, and now it is a functional industrial city. Ayanc£¿k, which has modern sports fields, cinema, hospital, public house, veterinary, tennis courts, etc. became one of the earliest settlements in Turkey having electricity thanks to this factory and business. In the study, the development of an industrial town and the innovations brought about by the influence of the timber factory due to the large and productive forests which are the main factor in the formation and development of the urban settlement in the region have been tried to be explained the reasons that differed from the other cities in the first years of the Republic in Ayanc£¿k example.
