%0 Journal Article %T The effect of self-breast examination information on women hygienic pad packaging on female university students %A Ay£¿e TA£¿TEK£¿N %A Ebru POLAT %J - %D 2019 %X Introduction: Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer that leads to death among women. The conducted researches on self breast examination (SBE) in our country shows a low and poor level of both knowledge and the performing of the SBE. In this study, hygienic women pads were used as an educational tool to raise awareness about SBE of cancer, which is very important for women's health. Method: This study was carried out with 300 female students in Afyon Kocatepe University¡¯s Health School in a single group (pre-test, post-test). Data was collected with Presentation Form, Champion's Health Belief Model Scale of Breast Cancer Screenings, and Evaluation Form. Descriptive statistics and nonparametric tests were used in the analysis of the data. Results: When the data were assessed, it was determined that more than half of the students were informed of the SBE, but the majority do not perform a regular SBE and about half of them do not know when SBE would be done. Almost all of the students reported after reading the information on pads packs, that they will perform the SBE and that this act will create a good awareness and disseminate the test effectively. Conclusion: This practice may be useful in order to protect and improve women's health by raising awareness on early diagnosis of breast cancer. Besides of benefiting more people from the service within the scope of preventive health care service, saving the number of individuals who provides those services and the time.
