%0 Journal Article %T Traces of Abu l-£¿Ala al-Ma£¿arri in Dante`s The Divine Comedy %A Anastasiya U£¿ar %A £¿mer £¿shako£¿lu %J - %D 2019 %X Abu l-£¿Ala al-Ma£¿arri (973-1057) is a famous extraordinary blind Arab poet and philosopher also known as ¡°Prisoner of Two Prisons¡±. Risalat Al-Ghufran is his one of the most important prose works since a work like this has never been seen before in Arabic literature. Risalat Al-Ghufran is a letter which Abu l-£¿Ala al-Ma£¿arri in 1033 wrote as an answer for the letter sent by Ali bin Mansur al-Halabi known as Dawhala and Ibn al-Qarih. £¿t consists of two parts, But the first part made it realy popular. This part includes a fantastic story of an imaginary journey to the spiritual worlds. After about three hundred years after the emergence of Ma£¿arri`s work in 1320 emerged Divine Comedy (La Divina Commedia) written by the great Italian Poet Dante Alighieri (1265-1321). This poem that created the basis of modern Italian language and considered one of the greatest works in history of World Literature consists a similar journey to hell, purgatory and paradise. Despite a long period of time and a distance in thousands of kilometers between Italy and Syria, there are astonishing similarities between Divine Comedy and Risalat Al-Ghufran. Our article is a comparative study in which we researched Abu l-£¿Ala al-Ma£¿arri¡¯s Risalat Al-Ghufran and Dante Alighieri`s Divine Comedy. Using the comparative method we made an analysis of theme, thought and form each of the two works written in different languages in different time and place.
