%0 Journal Article %T An Analysis on the Book Named "Malumat-I Baytarriyye" %A £¿ule SANAL %J - %D 2018 %X Renovation efforts that started with the Tanzimat in the Ottoman Empire also had an effect in the field of press and publishing. In this period, publications were made in a simple and didactic style in order to transfer information from the western world to the people. The publication of the first scientific and professional journals by the public institutions and personal initiatives began from the middle of the nineteenth century. In this research, a 46-page book titled "Malumat-£¿ Baytariyye" published among "The Collection of the As£¿r Library" in 1312 (AD 1895) was studied. The informations given in this book were evaluated in the context of its own period and today's veterinary medical knowledge. The writer Necmeddin Sami states that the purpose of the book is "merely to show the methods like feeding the animals, preserving their health, giving the necessary decency and reproducing them" in a way that everyone can understand. In the book, it is stated what needs to be done in animal nutrition, hygiene, barn cleaning and animal welfare.
