%0 Journal Article %T The Perception of Gender in the Madrasas of Eastern Turkey: A Descriptive Analysis through the Seydas of Diyarbak£¿r %A Abdusamet Kaya %J - %D 2019 %X Madrasahs located in Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia regions of Turkey have operated as centers of traditional religious thought for centuries. Although these institutions do not have an official status nowadays, they have maintained their influence in the region and have appealed to a wide social sector. The basic religious authority in these institutions are seydas who are respected and guide society in some fields. The religious understanding of Seydas and their approaches to certain issues related to religion allow us to determine the general attitude of the people in the context of related issues. Therefore, in this study, seydas are selected as a sample group. The main theme of the study is the relationship between gender and religion. This theme, which is one of the most debated issues in contemporary Islamic thought, is also one of the main interests of the sociology of religion. The points reflected in this study are the findings of a study focusing on the relationship between gender and religion through the seydas of Diyarbak£¿r from the point of view of the sociology of religion.
