C. Roger defined in the 1970s is that empathy is the period when a person puts himself in the place of someone else and correctly understands his feelings, feels his feelings and tells him about it. In this study, nurses¡¯ opinions and attitudes related to the empathy were tried to be determined by the 3-point Likert type scale study. The study was conducted with nurses working in private hospitals in Eski£¿ehir province on a totally voluntary basis. Data were gathered by means of a questionnaire and face-to-face interview method. SPSS 21.0 Statistical Program was used in analyzing the data. The average age of the nurses participating in the study is 40 ¡À 6.97. 22(73,3%), 22(73,3%) nurses are married and 23 nurses(76,7%) have children. All of the nurses participating in the study have under graduate and post-graduate education and 17 nurses(56.7%) are working with nurse titles. Twenty of nurses (66,7%) are working in internal clinics, 27 nurses (97%) have experience more than 10 years. Twenty-nine of the nurses (96.7%) are subject to a 40 hours working hour perweek. In the study, it was determined that the nurses participated in 8 questions on the positive side about empathy. It was determined that the nurses regarded empathy as cognitive communication as a means of acquiringin formation, sharing emotions, understanding the patient, respecting him and developing personal control. A statistically significant relationship was found between the educational background of the nurses and the expression "cognitive experience is the key to good communication" and the expression "stereo typed minds, hindering mental activities." (p<0.05). Nursing is a help and care occupation.
