%0 Journal Article %T A STUDY ON DETERMINING CRITICAL THINKING TENDENCIES OF UNDERGRADUATE PUBLIC RELATIONS STUDENTS %J - %D 2018 %X Critical thinking is an ability that must be earned by every individual as it enables to solve problems in daily life and career, to evaluate different viewpoints and to acquire ability to distinguish between right and wrong. Critical thinking skills, which must be gained for students in educational programs, are often not gained for various reasons. Studies on this issue have revealed that critical thinking skills are not at a very high level in students. One of the reasons for this situation is stated as adoption of a memorization-based education system and as a result of memorization-based education system critical thinking have not improved. Searching, analyzing and questioning knowledge that is gained, making connection between situations and issues, evaluating issues in a multi faced way is an indication of development of critical thinking skills. An individual can achieve reliable results using only his critical thinking skills. Both teachers and students should strive for development of critical thinking skills. It is important for faculty members to encourage students to participate in activities to improve their critical thinking skills. In communication faculties in general if students have critical thinking skills in field of public relations, it will bring success in their careers. This study examines critical thinking tendencies of students who study public relations in communication faculties. As a result of the study, it is found that students¡¯ level of critical thinking is high but it depends on genres and their reading books habits.
